Snow Leopard – Availability and Pricing in India

Mac OS 10.6 aka Snow Leopard will be available in India in another 2-4 weeks. It’ll be priced at Rs. 1,800 for existing Mac OS 10.5 users. Tiger users can buy the Mac Box Set which includes iLife’09, iWork’09 and Snow Leopard, for Rs. 10,000. As far as we can tell, Apple is not selling a “standalone” Snow Leopard SKU in India or in the US.

You can also buy the Snow Leopard Family Pack for Rs. 2,900 or the Mac Box Set Family Pack for Rs. 13,500.

Snow Leopard Server Edition will retail for Rs. 28,100.

Apple officially unveils their new notebooks in India

Apple officially announced the availability of the updated unibody aluminum MacBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Air and the 24″ Apple Cinema Display in India at a press conference in Mumbai this morning. We are told that the MacBooks and MacBook Pros are shipping today and the MacBook Air and the 24″ Apple Cinema Display will start shipping in November. While we’ve already published the prices of the new notebooks, the price of the Apple Cinema Display was announced today. It will retail in India for Rs. 60,900. With the Rupee heading south, this is a good price (provided, of course, that $ 899 is a good price in your book for a display).

Apple’s India events are a mere formality for the press and traditional media as the blogosphere and Mac enthusiasts are usually cued in well in advance. In fact most of us get our fix of the event through live blogs in the US or through Apple’s keynote podcast the very next day.

Also, a word on MacBook family’s availability in India – ’shipping today’ doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll see the new machines at stores tomorrow or even this weekend for that matter. But we’ll keep an eye out for them and alert you of their availability here – we personally quite look forward to getting our hands on them!

Apple posts Mobile Me status

Apple just posted a page with status of the Mobile Me services. I appreciate the frank tone here:

Steve Jobs has asked me to write a posting every other day or so to let everyone know what’s happening with MobileMe, and I’m working directly with the MobileMe group to ensure that we keep you really up to date. In the 14 days since we launched, it’s been a rocky road and we know the pain some people have been suffering. Be assured people here are working 24-7 to improve matters, and we’re going to favor getting you new info hot off the presses even if we have to post corrections or further updates later.

Mobile Me has been off to a rocky start. For a cloud service that starts at 100 USD a year one would expect better. Still, this is a step in the right direction and I hope that this marks the beginning of Apple becoming a tad more transparent with their customers. Yes things go bad, but sometimes all we need is a channel of regular communication to keep us from being grumpy!

Apple Reports Record Third Quarter Results

Apple just posted its third quarterly results and ~~it is well below Wall St. expectations~~ while the results beat Wall Street’s expectations, the guidance issued for this quarter did not. The Apple stock has been hammered down to $149.70 (-10.08%) in after hours trading.

The gist -

2.5 million Macs sold (which includes my new MacBook Pro).
41% growth YoY
Quarterly profit of $1 billion
$7.46 billion in revenue
International sales accounted for 42% of the quarter’s revenue.

iPhone numbers will come in the next quarter’s results.

These numbers look really good, I wonder what the Wall St. is expecting out of them?!
