How do I eject a CD/DVD on a Mac?

A friend recently found himself in front of a Mac. Something that I personally find trivial, had him scratching his head. How does one eject a CD/DVD from the DVD drive on Mac? He is used to tray loading CD/DVD drives that typically have a button on the drive for ejecting. Macs come with slot loading drives and there is no button on the drive itself. But there are other ways to do it:

  1. Press the Eject Key. It is typically next to the F12 key on most Mac keyboards. Elementary – once you know about it.

  2. Each time you put a CD or DVD in your drive, you get a CD/DVD icon on your desktop. Drag and drop the icon into Trash can (which turns into an eject icon on Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard))
  3. Alternatively, you can right click the icon (hold down the Ctrl key which clicking) and chose ‘Eject’ from the menu (usually the second option below “Open”)
  4. Start Terminal, type drutil eject and hit return.
