iPhone 3G in India

Facts about iPhone 3G launch in India:Apple iPhone 3G

  • Will be launched this year
  • Will be launched both by Airtel & Vodafone
  • No support for Indian languages and scripts.
  • Although the phone supports 3G, neither Airtel nor Vodafone has the 3G spectrum and the government still has to auction these off. Very unlikely that we will get 3G speeds this year.
  • You still cannot purchase tracks from iTunes if you are a resident of India so the iTunes is good only for podcasts. No word on purchasing applications for the iPhone from the AppStore.
  • Has GPS but does not allow turn-by-turn directions. According to the iPhone SDK iPhone section 3.3.7 – “Applications may not be designed or marketed for real time route guidance; automatic or autonomous control of vehicles, aircraft, or other mechanical devices, dispatch or fleet management; or emergency or live-saving purposes.”
